Free-space and Volumetric 3D Displays
New Tech

Free-space Display  Its about time we can project images into thin air! I've been wondering who was slacking on their job when it came to developing true freespace 3D displays.

Known as "Holograms" in the movies but not technically holograms, the images these display devices produce hang in mid-air, otherwise known as "freespace". Along with one display that produces a "volumetric" image which actually takes up a volume of space! Meaning its really 3D, having length, width and height.

Soon we will be bragging, "yeah my new display can do 10240 x 10240 x 10240 resolution.."

LifeGem - A Really Unique Diamond
Weird Science
LifeGem, Family Jewels I lack a certain sense of tactfulness when I speak sometimes, so I will open up with a sentence from the LifeGem website. "LifeGem is a certified, High-Quality diamond created from the carbon of your loved one as a memorial to their unique life." In other words.. they took the term "Family Jewels" to a whole new level.

No it's not a joke. They pretty much extract the carbon from the departed person's ashes (after cremation, unless maybe they were hit by martian heat rays?) then they use that carbon in a special process involving lots of heat and pressure which creates an artificial but real diamond.

What you end up with is a sweet looking rock that is part of your loved one, or... your pet. Thats right they also do pets! Now you can head to the backyard, dig up fluffy the hampster and have him made into something useful! Imagine the look on your fiancee's face when you give her that gem and then tell her where it came from! ( Make sure to tell her while shes drinking a glass of milk )

S.Korean man dies after 50 hours of computer games
Unexpected Events

Apparently a South Korean man has died after 50 hours of non-stop gaming. The authorities believe it was a heart-attack due to "over-exhaustion". I believe he was probably addicted to Everquest and someone stole his rune sword +536 of destruction which took two years to obtain. That then brought on the heart-attack.

VisBox, Projection Based VR
Gadgets

visbox virtual reality My mom used to always say " Don't sit too close to the TV, your eyes will melt". Okay she didn't say it exactly like that, but hey this company VisBox seems to throw those rules completely out the window.

On the VisBox site they have pictures of people standing approx 1 foot in front of their 3D Stereo Displays. It just does not look safe. I mean yeah I can do that at home, but I think my eyes will melt right? No seriously though their technology does look interesting. Apparently its very interesting to the guys in their photographs, I mean look at how close they are standing to the displays. =D

On the showcase of all things crazy, Ebay, we found a Toyota MR2 powered with twin GE T-58 turbine engines! This guy even customized the dash ( now a cockpit ) with all necessary meters, gauges and what not. Since the Ebay link will eventually go defunct we have for you here some pictures and videos to download provided by the man who made the car.
