Quality & Testing: Before we talk about the Audio quality I just wanted to mention that from my close examining this appears to be a very rugged backpack. Take a look at the Zippers: The Water-Resistant YBS Zippers almost seal themselves as you zip along.
Nearly everything on the pack is water resistant, the backpack itself is made of durable, water resistant 600D PE material. The speakers are made of water and UV resistant Polypropylene. These are such great features because if your lugging around audio equipment and electronic devices you want to put as much protection as possible in between the equipment and the dangerous element of water. All of the stitching on the material is high quality, most of the stress areas on the pack are double or quad stitched to prevent tearing. Audio System: First off heres the built in 2.0 Speaker System with Amp Specifications:
Amplifier is a 10watt amp, 5watts X2 Ch ( 5watts per channel) Uses 6"AA" Batteries to power Amplifiers, Battery Life approx 10HRs Speaker SPL: 90dB , Impedance: 8 ohms Input and Output connectors: 3.5mm Operating Voltage: 9VDC Now here is a close up view of one speaker in its enclosure. Close up of the SonicBoom's Speakers. Flipped outwards like a boombox.
This is what the Amplifier looks like out of the pack. It has a little black toggle powerswitch with red led light for power on notification. You can't really see that in the picture.
Audio Quality: Now my expectations were not extremely high for an audio system that can run on 6 "AA" batteries and a 10 watt amplifier, but when I connected to my mp3 player and fired it up all I could say was SWEET! It sounds alot better than you would expect, I pumped the volume up to see how high it would go and if the speakers would bottom out but even at full volume it sounded great, no distortion, no horrible noises. The mids and highs sound great, but bass of course is not this systems specialty. The battery life did not seem exactly like 10 hours though, but that is probably because I had it on full volume the whole time, I would expect that if you are not trying to annoy your friends and family with loud techno music coming from your backpack that the batteries will last longer. After 6 or 7 hours the batteries started to die, it will still play but I had to keep the volume lower or the music would get distorted sounding. Overall I would say the Audio quality of these speakers is about the same as you would hear from your typical 2.0 computer speaker setup. Satisfied me! This would be great for annoying people with recorded sound propaganda for TechAbsorbed! (evil grin) Buahahahha! Conclusion: A close examination for quality revealed no flaws or bad design, the audio quality is exceptional considering its running on a 10watt amp and 6"AA" batteries. The backpack is not heavy or cumbersome, it has hooks, loops and attachments that could be used for many devices or objects such as skateboards and snowboards. This would be a great backpack to carry a laptop in and plug it up to the speakers. The only downside to this great item is the potentially short life of the batteries, an addition such as a amplifier with rechargeable battery would make this product perfect in many senses. I was quite impressed by the quality and thought that went into the SoundSak: SonicBoom! It is the first product that will receive our TechAbsorbed "Ingenious Product Award".
This award will be given out for products that have a exceptionally unique idea and that carry that idea through with a great product that performs well. (alot of products have a great IDEA but they dont pull it off too well)
I would like to compliment SoundKase on a great product! PROS Durable, Quality Stitching, Water-resistant material and zippers Lots of pockets, pouches, straps, loops to store and hold everything Volume can go quite high without distorting sound. Comes with extra straps for skatesnowboards Speakers can swivel to focus backwards. Has a detachable pod to hold your CD player which can attach to your belt or several places on the backpack. Can optionally hold a 70oz water resovoir.
CONS - The battery life seems to be a bit short if you pump up the volume. A rechargeable battery would be great.
