This is a new laser show lavalampesque(thats not a word)
device, designed in the UK, now being imported into the USA.
Everyone seems to be going crazy about it so we will take a look at it.

Shiny gadget stuff!

Design & Features:

 Operation:

Basically what we got here is a small cylinder shaped unit with a discoball like crystal in the top. Multiple LED lights and Red Lasers are situated underdeath it. Also surrounding the crystal are little mirrors.

The LaserPod is activated by pushing a small black button on the back of the main unit.

When you turn the LaserPod on it projects lasers and LED lights into the crystal, therefore refracting the lasers every direction including on to the mirrors which can bounce them back into the crystal, etc etc you get the point.

The crystal ball spins once the unit is activated, making " organic light patterns" as the lasers refract through the ball and shine on the ceiling or diffuser covers.

There seems to be two modes of operation, one with Lasers and Blue LEDS and one without the LEDs.

 Cordless and Free!:

A nice feature of the LaserPod is that you dont have to plug it in with the AC Adaptor. The bottom of the unit comes off so that you can put three AA ( Double A ) batteries inside, Then you can run straight off the batteries !

 Lasers everywhere:

The LaserPod can be operated with or without the ElectroPlated diffuser covers. All the covers basically do is act as a surface for the lasers and LEDs to reflect off, so that the whole thing glows and you get a weird looking lamp with moving laser patterns.

You can also choose to use the refractor lens or not, it is a small glass plate with ripply bumps in it. It refracts the lasers even more so they arent as sharp appearing on the ceiling or inside the diffusers.

Here it is with the tall Diffuser(left: laser only) (right: laser and LED )

Here it is with the small diffuser.

 Without the Diffusers:

Now without the diffuser on it will shine up on the ceiling but you have to be in a pretty dark room to see it. There was no real point in taking pictures of it because they cannot show the moving patterns that make it cool.

I did however take some video so you can see the moving patterns a little better.

Laser only mode with the tall diffuser
Download AVI Video ( 750 KB )

Laser and LED mode with the tall diffuser on
Download AVI Video ( 930 KB )

Both modes, no diffuser, shining on ceiling
Download AVI Video ( 1.8 MB )

Both Modes, no diffuser, no refractor lens, on ceiling
Download AVI Video ( 1.0 MB )

Conclusion:

Honestly the LaserPod would be a lot cooler if you have a Fog Machine, so you could see the lasers projecting everywhere. Probably alot of the people who purchase a LaserPod will have a fog machine but if you dont, its just a cool laser lamp.

I like the use of lasers but the first thing everyone wants to do is look directly in it. Everyone I showed it too immediately stuck their face in it.

It works like its supposed too. I wish it was more useful without a fog machine or a party I just cant seem to find any parties lying around in here.

I think this would be a great product for party peoples, ravers, etc. Otherwise save your money. It will lose its charm after a few minutes.

PROS

  • Quality Built

  • Runs plugged in or on Batteries

  • Various options, Diffusers, Refractor Lens

  • Use it as a Laser Show on the ceiling or a Laser Lamp

CONS

  • Unless you are a total party person it will lose its coolness
after a few minutes of staring.
  • Only thing different than other laser show type devices is the LEDS and the Diffusers to use it as a weird lamp.

Could be brighter, Maybe some different modes or features?
It also seems to be kind of expensive for what it does.
