What is the "Aliens Motion Tracker"?

 The "Aliens Motion Tracker" movie prop replica is a recent product of MasterReplicas Inc. If your not familiar with MasterReplicas, they are most recently known as having the best line of officially licensed Star Wars movie props; such as the very popular Star Wars Force FX Light Sabers. The particular item we are reviewing today is a 1:1 replica of a Sci-Fi military device used in the 1986 movie "Aliens".

  In the movie Aliens, soldiers called "Colonial Marines" used a handheld gadget, known as the Motion Tracker, to do exactly what the name of the device eludes at, track motion. Basically the tracker allowed a marine to point it in a specific direction and then viewing a small monitor on the tracker he could tell if a person or creature was moving around, regardless of walls or other objects in the way. In theory it is similar to the modern Ultrasound technology they use for viewing babies in a mothers womb. Just replace the mothers womb with a derelict space colony and the baby with a vicious acid-blooded alien... You get the idea.

 If you haven't seen the movies, you NEED too. They rank up there with the best sci-fi movies of all time. Be sure to watch the movies in order though (Alien, Aliens, Aliens 3, Aliens 4: Resurrection and finally Alien Vs Predator)

 Everything you need and then some. I would like to also mention that the packing is fantastic; there is always a chance your package could get damaged in shipping, but quality packing makes it very unlikely.

Design & Features

 I've seen quite a few of MasterReplicas products, and yet every time I see another I am amazed at the quality! I can't imagine the detailed research they must do in order to replicate movie props like this.

Well, lets get on with the review and we'll see if they hold up to their usual standards!.

The Accessories

  The certificate of Authenticity if one of the first things you will notice. Set in a professional styled cream colored envelope  it includes two pages that assure you of the props authenticity and licensing by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, as well a few paragraphs talking about how the original prop was created and how MasterReplicas went about replicating it. On the bottom is a signature from the CEO of Master Replicas to make it all official.

Documents and Certificate of Authenticity

 The included Instruction Pamphlet is well written, giving you the details you need to take care of your precious collectible while refraining from being too wordy or confusing.

 If you collect anything, whether it be baseball cards, stamps or obscure anime action figures, we all know that the one essential item to any collection is a Display Case of some sort to protect your geeky investment.

As you can see, MasterReplicas does not skimp when it comes to the Display Case. This is not one of those flimsy cases you can buy at a hobby store. When you pick the base up you can feel a solid, hefty weight, that combined with the high friction rubber feet on the bottom means it definitely won't be sliding around without your permission.

 Even though you won't be seeing the MasterReplicas logo on the underside of the base when you have it set up for display, it still looks awesome too.

 The acrylic display\protective case is very thick and looks great. The corners are even rounded so you won't scratch your frail baby-like skin on it. When I took it out of the box it was wrapped with a foam type padding, there was no scratches or scuffs present on the case.

 Above you can see the tracker sitting on the base mount. The mount is very solid but the way it holds the Motion Tracker is a bit unstable; I think it could have been designed a little better. If you need to move the display case while the Motion Tracker is sitting on the mount; I would suggest taking the tracker out of the case first, because a little movement will knock the tracker off the mount.

 The Limited Edition Plaque is not secured to the base of the display case. It is a separate plastic piece with a metal plate that comes un-attached in the package. It has a "peel and stick" backing for you to apply it to the tiny plaque stand. On our Motion Tracker unit the Plaque says "Limited Edition Artists Proof" but on everyone else's it will have the Limited Edition Unit Number, like X out of 2500.

 Now for the last accessory, but one of the coolest. The military styled shoulder sling is a great feature of this collectible. It looks great sitting in the display case with the Motion Tracker and it becomes functional if you intend on wearing your Motion Tracker with a Colonial Marine costume to the next CosPlay or Sci-Fi convention.

 I have to give Master Replicas props for going all the way with this replica. They could have easily made the shoulder sling's clips out of plastic instead of metal, but they chose metal! Very high quality stuff here. The sling itself appears to be made out of a tough synthetic material like nylon. The design of the shoulder sling reminds me of WW2 and Vietnam Era military equipment. The prop itself and the rest of the Marines gear in the movie were also styled in this fashion.
