The Goodies:

Vessel products are all designed in an excellent minimalist sytle and we see that reflected in the external packaging. The lamps are also very well packed, snugly fitting in their protective casing.

DESIGN & FEATURES

Contactless is a good thing

One neat feature of these rechargeable candles is the contactless recharging station. The base uses the new magnetic-type field charging you have probably seen on the latest Electric Toothbrushes.

  Image Image Image

They include a sweet "Auto-On" feature where the Candela candles will automatically turn on when you remove them from the base and then turn off when you put them back on the base. I don't know about everyone else but I am all for anything that allows me to do even less work!

Also on the bottom of each Candela Lamp (middle pic) is a small power button to manually turn on or off the light.

I have found they are good for leaving them sitting around the house in strategic spots, that way when your wandering through the house at night in the pitch dark with a tray of pop-tarts and milk you don't step on the family dog or heirloom.

Simplicity

The general design and style of the candles is very pleasing to look at. Smooth and nearly seamless they appear very modern or futuristic.

The charging station is flat and unobtrusive. Its very clean looking but very wide, so you might have a hard time finding a place to place it. Packing it up for travel is made easy since the cord unplugs from the unit itself for easy storage.

Battery Life

These Candela Lamps will last you approximately 5 hours under a full charge and good battery condition. I think these would be great to have in a cellar or storm shelter, all together with four you would have 20 hours of light if needed.

To recharge them you simply set them back on the base and after several hours they will be fully charged.

Let there be colors!

This set that Vessel sent us for review comes with Greenish,Purplish,Yellowish and Orangish lamps. The reason for all the "ishes" is that the colors are sort of pastel. Very cool looking though.

What use for a geek?

"Set the mood on fire,Not the house"

Now you may think "What could a geek possibly want with some pastel colored girlie lamps like these?"

Well as Vessel states on their website "Set the mood on fire, Not the house"

These lamps just might enable you spark some flames of passion without your spouse or girlfriend going up in flames.

SUMMARY

The Candela Rechargeable Lamps are well constructed and durable. Suitable for Indoor or Outdoor use. They do give the effect of dimly lit candles, but without the flickering flame that we all love and hate at the same time ( if you have ever put black soot stains on the ceiling or yourself then you know what I mean ). The battery life is great at 5 hours per candle. I would say this would be a great addition to a Geeks arsenal of gadgets and "mood-setting" tools. Also I think any woman you bought these for would be surprised by the ingeniousness of the concept and the practical + aesthetic value. The $80 price may seem high but compared to buying lots of candles which are Not re-usable, it would be a wise investment.

Vessel did a great job making a product that creates a candlelight mood, without the hazards!

    PROS
  • Multiple Colors
  • Rechargable
  • Mobile, sits up straight, area lighting
  • Easy to use
  • Makes a setting the Mood easy for a geek without risking bodily damage to himself or others via the combination of Flames & Clumsiness

    CONS
  • Not extremely bright
  • Colors are pastel and female oriented. ( Can be good for mood setting though )
  • Some people will be deterred by the $80.00 cost
if they don't have a good reason to buy the lamps.
