Hyluxes LED Emergency Flashlight
Hyluxes Emergency LED 3-in-1 Flashlight  Nothing comes in handy like a Flashlight, Ducktape and a Sledgehammer is what I always say. At least until that time I needed a torx screwdriver, no amount of light, tape or pounding will turn one of those screws. Well if you are need of a innovative and unusual LED flashlight; the Hyluxes LED Emergency Flashlight might be what you need! Today we take a closer look at this interesting item.

    What's Included?:
  • Hyluxes LED Emergency Light
  • Cordless, Contactless Magnetic Induction Charger

It's nice to review something simple for a change, no complication here. Just pure ease of use.

Design and Features

The Hyluxes LED Flashlight may not appear unusual at first, but it has some very unique features that you won't find in many other "non-sweet" flashlights (yes, thats a proper Geek technical term).

This unusual flashlight is designed to have around for emergency use, or just to have a practical flashlight thats available when you need it. Lets take a look at the physical innovations implemented, then we will examine brightness and other features.

First looking at the flashlight you will notice that it has a smooth, futuristic design. Very pleasing to the eyes for those concerned with such aesthetic appeal. It comes in three colors actually, Blue, Red and Yellow.

Second, you can see that there is no metal contacts for charging in the base unit. This is because it uses ElectroMagnetic Induction , a very interesting technology being applied ever more often to rechargeable devices. Why?..Having no exposed metal contacts can make a product safer in general, especially for a product that might be close to the ground where children could get ahold of it. It likely increases the water resistance too, being that theirs less cracks and crevices on the device.

Another interesting feature of the base charging unit is the 90-degree reversible plug. This enables you to fit the plug onto the wall or a powerstrip at different angles to save space or fit in a crowded area.

Those of are the most physical features. Here is a list of all the features; after which we will examine the other features in testing and use.

Features of the Hyluxes LED Emergency Flashlight:

  • Hyper-Bright LEDs rated at 7,500mcd per LED
  • Auto-On feature for blackouts and emergencies
  • On and Off modes, plus a SOS strobe light mode
  • Water resistant
  • Cordless ElectroMagnetic Induction Recharging
  • 90-degree reversible wall plug
  • 10 Hour battery life runtime, 28 days standby

Performance and Testing

Charging, Battery Life:

We found that the battery life does run at about 10 hours which is great for a small rechargeable flashlight.

The Electromagnetic Induction charging works fine, but with no way of measuring the charge we could not determine how long it takes to fully charge the flashlight. ( We assume its a few hours, based on experience with Toothbrushes that charge in a similar fashion )

90-Degree Wall Plug - Good and Bad:

The reversible wall plug does help, but the charger is still fairly bulky; so it will take about two plugs worth of space. It is also difficult to turn the plug around, you have to push so hard that your afraid to break it.(*UPDATED* The manufacturer has stated that the difficult to turn 90-degree reversible plug issue has been Corrected )

Another thing we noticed is that if the wall sockets are old, the charger might hang out a bit because of the flashlight's weight.

LED Brightness and Strobe:

At 7,500mcd per LED with a total of 30,000mcd, it is a very bright LED light. Though they are bright for LEDs, visually compared to a typical light bulb they will seem dim, but for this flashlights purpose as an emergency light, the light level is fine. It provides more than enough light to get around at night time indoors or in small dark locations.

When push the button four times, you will activate the SOS Strobe Light. Basically it just flashes the light repeatedly, though it does seem brighter while doing so. It's sure to get someones attention if they saw it.

Auto-On and Water Resistance:

The auto-on is a nice feature. If the power goes out while the Hyluxes flashlight is in the base unit, it will automatically turn itself on. It does the same with the flashlight is removed from the base unit too. This is good for example, if you are being chased by killer androids in a dark laboratory, then you don't have to fumble around for the button while dodging disintegration beams. Or of course very useful in your standard emergency.

As for the water resistance, we submerged it into a container of water for several minutes. After we removed it from the water, we saw that some water had gotten inside the flashlight. It did not cease functioning or die, and the water did drip out when held at a certain angle.

The manufacturers information does say WaterProof and Water Resistant in several locations. I will assume they mean't only water resistant, as it is obviously not water Proof. So it does pass our test for being simply resistant to water for a short period of time.

Review Summary

The Hyluxes LED Emergency Flashlight is easy to use and includes several innovative features. It's not revolutionary, but the contactless charging makes usage safer and the SOS strobe feature provides interesting emergency features. The reversible plug is unique and useful, but seems hard to turn. The whole flashlight is water resistant, but not water proof, so don't plan on taking it for a swim.

We believe the Hyluxes LED Emergency light would make a great gift for that person who is always prepared for the worst, or even for someone who just needs a practical light available around the house.

    PROS

  • On, Off and Emergency SOS strobe light modes
